Easter is just around the corner and for young people there’s plenty of free, fun and accessible activities to enjoy wherever they live in the borough of Telford & Wrekin.

With the cost of living still squeezing household budgets, Telford & Wrekin Council will be running its free Urban Games sports programme for girls and boys, aged eight to 16. Football, cricket, wrestling, hockey, multi-sports and BMX biking are all running at various venues and children can just turn up.

The council’s popular Kids4£1 scheme also returns with leisure activities including golf, tobogganing, tennis and more. There’s the 10 by 10 campaign, too, encouraging children to try a range of activities before their tenth birthday.

The council also provides a broad range of inclusive activities and events that children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities can take part in, to make friends and develop new skills and interests.

To make it easier to search for what’s on, the council has launched its Youth Offer website, a great one-stop-shop for younger residents to discover things to do.

The BMX sessions are gearing up to be a favourite at the Urban Games and now more children will be able to take part after money was provided by the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner for the purchase of bikes which will be used by Telford Flyers.

Urban Games is just one of the projects funded through the council’s Safer & Stronger Communities programme in partnership with the Police and Crime Commissioner and part-funded by levelling up money from the government.

Safer & Stronger Communities supports projects that bring people together and reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and are the result of residents’ feedback. If people have ideas for a project in their area, they can contact the team at saferstronger@telford.gov.uk
