Letting The Light In, a series of alternative music gigs being presented in historic spaces, continues this spring with events in Shrewsbury.

On Thursday 18 April, Audrey Carmes will arrive from Paris to play the Unitarian Church. Having graduated from the Paris School of Fine Art, she found herself drawn towards the city’s experimental electronic music, developing a sound practice that she combined with her poetry and writing. On her spellbinding debut album Quelque chose s'est dissipé, Audrey creates spacious worlds that shimmer with subtle intricacy. Inspired by ambient, krautrock and avant-garde electronic music, Audrey draws on a range of sonic elements to create her own distinct blend of sound design and composition. Songs build through evolving layers of synthesizer, easing the album seamlessly through its eleven tracks, surrounding Carmes’ delicate vocals and spoken word segments with bass guitar, vibraphone and flute.

Audrey will be joined by Roberto Biffarini, from Shrewsbury who deliver a soothing electronic soundscape.

Tara Clerkin Trio will play St. Alkmund's Church on 23 May. TCT are Pat Benjamin, Sunny Joe Paradisos and Tara Clerkin, three musicians involved in a number of cult Bristol bands over the years before confidently settling down in triangle formation. They are inspired by and borrow from jazz, trip hop, electronica, psychedelia and minimalism. Their self-titled debut LP was released in 2020 and was a sleeper hit, coming in at 35 in the Wire's top 100 albums of the year. Their latest EP, On The Turning Ground, was released on World of Echo in November and is receiving lots of attention in the media. Whilst their inspirations might be centreless, the trio anchor their form to their hometown. Bristol stands as a city of multitudes, heterogenous and vibrant in such a way as to allow it to renew and remake time and again.
