A major new exhibition looking at homelessness in modern Britain is set to open at The Hub at St Mary's, Lichfield later this month.

'Outsiders: A Journey Through Homelessness' is a documentary photography project by award winning photographer Marc Davenant. In partnership with Shelter, he captured a snapshot of homelessness in modern Britain over a six-year period, with powerful, personal testimony from participants.

Through his lens, Davenant captured the essence of their daily struggles and aims to draw attention to the often-overlooked stories that lie beneath the surface. This thought-provoking exhibition, featuring Davenant's challenging black and white images and the compelling narratives of those affected by homelessness and substandard housing, will open at The Hub Gallery on Saturday 23 March.

Outsiders invites viewers to experience the raw reality of life in slums and on the streets. Each photograph serves as a window into the subjects' lives, offering a glimpse of their resilience, strength and determination amidst unimaginable circumstances. Through this exhibition, Davenant aims to challenge perceptions and ignite conversations about the urgent need for change.

The Hub Gallery Curator, Douglas Armour says; "It's a huge privilege to host an exhibition from a nationally award-winning documentary photographer of this calibre in The Hub Gallery. Marc Davenant's 'Outsiders' explores homelessness in an empathetic and collaborative way having been done in partnership with Shelter and with the active participation of people with lived experience of homelessness.

The powerful combination of imagery and personal testimony will give our visitors a unique insight into the human stories behind living 'outside' in modern Britain and I highly commend it."

The exhibition is free to enter and is supported by Shelter and Arts Council England. 'Outsiders: A Journey Through Homelessness' is on display from Saturday 23 March until Saturday 22 June, you can find out more at thehubstmarys.co.uk.
