Chosen as one of the cream of the crop of the UK pub industry, the Church Street Townhouse in Stratford-upon-Avon has reached the finals of the 2017 Publican Awards, a national competition run by leading industry magazine The Morning Advertiser.

Run by Brakspear, the Stratford pub has been shortlisted for the Best Accommodation Operator title, the winner of which will be announced in March. The category assesses the design and comfort of bedrooms, as well as other elements of the experience for overnight guests such as breakfast and customer service, and Brakspear has secured a finalist place for the accommodation offered in five of its pubs, including the Church Street Townhouse as well as three other Cotswolds venues and another in Surrey.

For the next stage in the process, judges will visit a number of the shortlisted pubs with members of the Brakspear head office team. There will also be a series of professional mystery pub visits and, finally, an interview in London for the Brakspear senior management team.

Church Street Townhouse General Manager Neil Hanson said, “We are thrilled to be shortlisted for the Publican Awards. We’ve worked really hard to build our reputation as a traditional, characterful place to stay when visiting Stratford and have seen our average length of stay increase, so we know customers are enjoying their time with us. We’re looking forward to the next stage of judging and the announcement of the winners in March.”

Morning Advertiser Editor Ed Bedington said, “We had record entries into the Publican Awards this year, so our judges had a difficult task in choosing the finalists from a very talented field. All the pubs that have reached the shortlist deserve to be very proud of their achievement and we wish them all good luck with the next stage of the judging, and look forward to announcing the winners in March.”

In addition to reaching the finals of the Best Accommodation category, The Sheep on Sheep Street in Stow-on-the-Wold, which Brakspear opened in June 2016, has also been shortlisted for the Best New Pub or Bar award.

Brakspear has succeeded in the Publican Awards in previous years, winning Best Tenanted Pub Operator (up to 200 pubs) in 2014, and reaching the finals of the Best Brewing Pub Company last year. Winners of the Publican Awards 2017 will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on 14 March, attended by guests from across the pub industry.
