Hats off to Leonkoro, who visit the region laden with booty after winning a bagful of awards at the 2022 Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition. The Berlin-based musicians - Leonkoro means Lionheart in Esperanto, by the way - also came out victorious at the prestigious Bordeaux Competition, claimed the coveted Jürgen Ponto Foundation Music Prize, and became BBC New Generation Artists for a period of two years. In short, they’re a terrifically talented ensemble who’re well worth an evening of your time.
Their mid-month Midlands stop-off sees them getting to grips with compositions by Schubert, Janáček and Beethoven.
