Worcestershire’s largest free annual art event, Worcestershire Open Studios will return from 19 - 28 August 2023.

This year the event has more studios than ever to visit, with 97 venues showcasing 128 artists, with over 40 artists taking part for the first time. Artists and makers will be welcome the public into their studios and give a behind the scenes into how they create their art.

There is a diverse range of artwork on show including painting, sculpture, printmaking, jewellery, ceramics, photography, textiles and woodworking, with all studios free to visit.

Richard Nicholls of Worcestershire Open Studios said that the event would give the public an excellent opportunity to see the talent on their doorstep, to meet the artists and find out more about their art. “Artists will show how they work, the tools and materials they use and answer any questions,” Richard said “The artist's work will be on display with the chance to buy original art, many artists will have cards, prints, and gifts for sale too.”

Joe Eccles, is a mixed media artist, and taking part in Worcestershire Open Studios for the first time. “I’m looking forward to letting you explore my paintings - with as much, or as little input from me as you prefer!” he said. “Canvases of varying sizes will be available to buy, alongside items like mugs with my art designs. I’ll be painting intermittently so there will be works-in-progress to see and you can learn more about my art process and what inspires me.”

Jennifer Ng is an interdisciplinary artist working across Chinese ink painting, performance, installation, and participatory art. Based in Worcester she loves to share her art and see people getting excited about art. Jennifer said “I took part in Open Studios last year and still smile when I remember the visitors I had. This year I’ll be talking about my artistic processes, inspirations and my recently completed art research.”

“Following the success of last year’s longer event, this year’s will again be open over 10 days,” said Richard Nicholls from Worcestershire Open Studios. “This gives everyone more opportunity to see the artists taking part.”

Printed guides have all the detail on the artists taking part and are available in the county’s libraries and tourist information centres or can be downloaded from the Worcestershire Open Studios website.
