Just when you thought you’d said a fond farewell to pantomime fare for another year, up pops this all-guns-blazing production of Mother Goose, complete with a very special leading man. Celebrated star of stage & screen Sir Ian McKellen takes the title role in a show that also stars comedian John Bishop and a host of fairies and puppets.
“Mother Goose is a serious story told comically,” says Sir Ian. “It is about good and bad - and of course, good always triumphs in a pantomime. It uses every device theatre can offer. There is singing, there is dancing, there is rhyme, there are jokes, there is sentiment, there is audience participation, there is a man dressed as a woman, a woman dressed as a goose. Everything has gone haywire, and it is all for the audience to have a good time. That is the only reason you do it.”
Mother Goose will head to Wolverhampton Grand from Wednesday 22 – Sunday 26 February 2023.
