Synonymous with daring programming and high-quality performance, Britten Sinfonia stop off in Birmingham this month to present Jewish composer Michael Zev Gordon’s A Kind Of Haunting.
Currently on its world-premiere tour, the composition explores why and how the trauma of the Holocaust holds such a grip on not only the children of victims and survivors, but also the grandchildren...
The concert also features Martinů’s concerto for double string orchestra, piano & timpani - reflecting the pre-war tension and anxiety of 1938 - and Strauss’ Metamorphosen - a 1945 elegy lamenting the destruction of Germany and its culture. Jonathan Berman conducts.
