Off-kilter pop. Haunting soundscapes. Distorted synths. Sugary melodies. All of the above are much in evidence in the output of Hong Kong British artist Eva Liu, performing under the moniker Mui Zyu [pronounced ‘moy joo’]. Taking inspiration from video games, films, and her family’s Cantonese pop collection, she’s visiting Birmingham in support of her sophomore album, Nothing Or Something To Die For, released in May to significant critical acclaim.
