Birmingham’s indie production company, Threewise Entertainment, has triumphed at the prestigious Films for the Forest competition in Austin, Texas.

Threewise Entertainment’s winning entry, a short film titled Stolen Thought, was shot in just 48 hours and originally produced for the 15th Anniversary of the Sci-Fi London 48 Hour Film Challenge. The film was also a Top 10 Finalist in that competition.

The making of Stolen Thought was a collaborative effort that paired professional filmmakers with young talent from BOA Stage & Screen Production Academy in Ladywood, Birmingham. The Academy’s students worked alongside industry professionals behind the scenes, and graduating students took on leading roles in the film. Michael Ford, the founder of Threewise Entertainment and a Board of Governors member at BOA Stage and Screen, emphasises the importance of creating opportunities for the next generation of filmmakers in the region.

Stolen Thought, filmed with the support of Film Birmingham and directed by AJ Davies, presents a powerful narrative about environmental activism. Written by Chris Deans, a Brummie electrician turned screenwriter, the film is set in a future where deforestation has reached critical levels and breathing itself comes at a cost. The story follows four activists who risk everything to reclaim a way of life long forgotten.

With the success of Stolen Thought, Deans, Davies, and Ford are now working on a feature-length adaptation titled Your Last Breath. The upcoming YA thriller will continue the story of young activists in a future world controlled by energy corporations that monopolise air. In a gripping chase for survival, the protagonists steal one of the country's last surviving trees, pursued by a greedy corporation willing to hunt them to their last breath. The filmmakers compare the film to thrillers such as 71’, The Maze Runner, and The Hunger Games.
