One of Birmingham’s leading mental health organisations, Living Well Consortium, has opened its newest wellbeing café, grounded., in the Jewellery Quarter – the first in the city centre.

Thanks to the fantastic response to the first two openings in Selly Oak and Hall Green, the newest project has renovated a listed building overlooking St. Paul’s Square in its biggest undertaking yet. The NHS England-backed initiatives act as a welcoming space providing accessible mental health support for its diverse communities. This includes everything from professional talking therapies and to casual social gatherings with coffee and cake.

Following the success of the first two grounded. wellbeing hubs in Birmingham, the newest site, will host a community for mental health support in the form of a coffee shop and professional mental health support. The new grounded. site – much like the other established locations in Hall Green and Selly Oak - has been uniquely designed to offer a more accessible path to mental health care. Supported by Sculpt, the space aims to reduce the stigma around approaching mental health services and break down the barriers to entry for professional mental health support.

Living Well Consortium - with funding from NHS England - has created grounded. to provide vital and accessible mental health resources for the city’s diverse communities. This newest hub will be located at 55 St. Paul’s Square overlooking the iconic St. Paul’s Church, offering coffee, cakes, and mental wellbeing support Monday to Friday from 8:30am – 3:30pm.

Celebrating a hugely successful year for the grounded. name, Living Well’s third city site reflects a critical need for wider mental health support in the region. The first-of-its-kind wellbeing café in Selly Oak was launched with the aim of serving the student and residential population of the local area, offering visitors a place to relax, recover, and recoup. The second wellbeing site in Hall Green has offered the diverse community access to vital mental health support – which they have traditionally been slow to take up.

On the launch of the new site, Ben Howells, Chief Executive Officer at Living Well Consortium, comments: “In the midst of a mental health crisis, both locally and across the UK, grounded. presents an opportunity to bring much-needed support to the city. We continue to be amazed by the reception to these spaces, and the entire team behind their development has been fantastic. With the support of various partners, we’ve been able to create three brilliant and welcoming wellbeing services for communities that need them.

“The team on site – both from Living Well, Evolve, and third-party partners - will be working hard to continue to deliver the brilliant standards set by our other sites and offer the warm, welcoming space and a cup of coffee people have come to expect from grounded.”
