One of the best-known figures in contemporary British politics is to discuss her life and work at Hockley Social Club in Birmingham on Sunday 22 June 2025.
Jess Phillips, UK Minister for Safeguarding, MP for Birmingham Yardley, and proud Brummie, will share her experiences with broadcaster and host Kathryn Stansczyszyn and a live audience in an evening of conversation at the Jewellery Quarter cultural venue.
The Birmingham-born political firebrand will talk about her front line work in both Westminster and her constituency, as well as the challenges of her high profile role.
Jess will discuss the recent public attack on her by one of the world’s most powerful business and tech figures turned US government hawk, as well as her efforts to change culture and legislation around violence against women and girls in the UK, and her experiences growing up, living and working in Birmingham.
A donation following the event will be shared with city organisations Birmingham and Solihull Women's Aid and RSVP Midlands, who support women and children affected by domestic violence and sexual abuse or violence.
In 2024, Jess Phillips was reelected for her fourth term as the Labour candidate for Birmingham Yardley, a large south-eastern district which she has represented in Parliament since 2015.
Post-General Election, she was appointed a Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Home Office, with responsibility for safeguarding and violence against women and girls.
Kathryn Stansczyszyn is a journalist, broadcaster and presenter on BBC Radio WM and BBC Midlands Today, and occasionally on BBC News, BBC Breakfast and BBC Five Live.
As a BBC political reporter and radio presenter for the West Midlands region, Kathryn has worked on some of the biggest stories of the last few years, including the COVID-19 pandemic, multiple local and general elections, and the Section 114 announcement by Birmingham City Council.
