The Simmer Down Festival returns to Handsworth Park on Sunday 28 July to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Bob Marley’s debut single, Simmer Down.
Headlined by Bob’s Grammy Award-winning son Julian Marley, this year’s festival promises to be a historic and unforgettable event.
Currently on an extensive world tour, Julian Marley promises festival-goers an unforgettable experience.
Julian Marley will be joined by an all-star lineup including Janet Kay, Carroll Thompson, Peter Hunnigale, Peter Spence, Keisha White, Tenna Star, Keisha White, Macka B, Mad Professor, Sonbeam, Skenga T and many more. Additional performers across two stages will include Luv Injection, The Windrush Carnival Queen and runners up, Professor Black’s Carnival Ensemble, GAP’s Simmer Down Dancers, Hype & Fever, LA Gray, Mafia & Fluxy Sound featuring Megumi.
This year’s event is particularly significant as it also features a special tribute to Miss Beverly Kelso, one of the original members of The Wailers and the only surviving member from the recording session of "Simmer Down"; and a tribute to the late poet Benjamin Zephaniah.
In addition to the headlining acts, the festival will showcase new and emerging artists as well as the odd veteran on the Tun Up stage, providing a platform for fresh talent in the music industry.
