With just one month to go, anticipation is building for the AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run, set to be the biggest in ten years.

Scheduled for the weekend of 3 & 4 May, the Midlands’ biggest running event promises an inclusive celebration of fitness, community spirit, and charity fundraising.

All events are expected to sell out before the city’s big Brummie running takeover weekend – if you’re thinking of joining the thousands of runners of all ages for the AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run, sign up now

The city’s celebration of running begins on Saturday 3 May, with the Junior and Mini Great Birmingham Runs at the iconic Alexander Stadium in Perry Barr. Dubbed “Super Saturday,” this day offers young runners the chance to race on the same track that hosted the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Minis (aged 3-8) will tackle a 1.5km course, while Juniors (9-15) face a 2.5km challenge. This initiative aims to inspire the next generation of runners by providing them with a world-class experience.

Stars of the hit show Gladiators will also be in attendance as official starters for this year’s Junior & Mini event!

On Sunday 4 May, the city will host the 10K and Half Marathon races, featuring routes that highlight Birmingham’s renowned landmarks. Runners will pass through the Jewellery Quarter, St Paul’s Square, the Mailbox, Grand Central, and more. Half marathon participants will also experience the scenic views of Cannon Hill Park and Edgbaston. The start line is set in Centenary Square, promising a vibrant atmosphere filled with music and enthusiastic spectators, before both events finish at Smithfield in Southside with food stalls, charity partners and a post-run party.

This year’s event weekend is on track to welcome over 16,000 participants, marking it as the largest Great Birmingham Run in a decade. Many runners are dedicating their efforts to charitable causes, continuing the event’s tradition of significant fundraising contributions to organisations such as Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, Alzheimer’s Society, St Basil’s, Cancer Research UK, the British Heart Foundation and many more.

Great Birmingham Run participants will be wearing with pride a new-look medal for 2025. Featuring a sleek, modern design that captures the energy and spirit of Birmingham’s biggest organised run, it’s the perfect reward for the hard work and dedication of every participant taking on the 10K and half marathon distances.

This year’s medal is a force to be reckoned with: The zig-zags on the left of the medal draw inspiration from the Birmingham flag: a nod to the city that powers this race. The circular patterns? That’s straight from Brum’s iconic architecture: think bold, think beautiful.
