The Alexandra, Birmingham will throw open its doors during the school holidays and invite visitors to explore behind the scenes of the beautiful, historic venue for a free Open Day packed with Easter fun for all the family.

Visitors can expect a day full of creativity for the local community to get involved with – and it’s all completely free to attend. Everyone is welcome; whether your interest lies in theatre and heritage buildings or you’re looking for fun things to do to keep the kids entertained, there will be something on offer for all to enjoy.

Test your technical skills and ‘light up the stage’ with the state-of-the-art lighting system used in professional shows, access the fly floor and even have a go on the sound desk. There will be the opportunity to tour behind the scenes of the theatre with expert guides, delve into the archives on display and ask the things people want to know about The Alex and its history.

Artist & Designer Garry Jones will return to The Alexandra to provide craft activities for all ages in the theatre’s Bridge Bar, and performing arts workshops will take place throughout the day for children to explore the world of Musical Theatre through dance and drama.

There will also be the opportunity to try on costumes from the shows, take part in an exciting Easter trail, have your face painted and much more.

Local alpine restaurant, and partner of The Alex, Albert’s Schloss, is running an exclusive ‘kids eat free*’ offer for attendees of the Open Day who might want to refuel and relax after exploring the theatre - details of which will be available from the venue, on the day.

With plenty of activities to get involved with, this is a rare opportunity to see the theatre during a ‘dark day’ when no shows are on stage and the theatre is usually closed to the public.

Please note that due to the nature of the historic building, access to parts of the venue involves many stairs.
