Following the success of The Alexandra, Birmingham’s free Open Day in September 2023, the theatre will once again throw open its doors and invite visitors to explore behind the scenes of the beautiful, historic venue.

Visitors can expect a day packed full of creativity for the local community to get involved with – and it’s all completely free to attend! Everyone is welcome; whether your interest lies in theatre and heritage buildings or you’re a family looking to fill your weekend with activities, there will be something on offer for all to enjoy.

Test your technical skills and ‘light up the stage’ with the state-of-the-art lighting system used in professional shows, access the fly floor and even have a go on the sound desk. There will be the opportunity to tour behind the scenes of the theatre with expert guides, delve into the archives on display and ask the things people want to know about The Alex and its history.

Exclusive ticket offers will be available to access at the Box Office and The Alex has also partnered with local eateries to offer special food discounts – details of which will be available from the venue, on the day.

With plenty of activities available to get involved with, this is a unique opportunity to see the theatre during a ‘dark day’ when no shows are on stage and the theatre is usually closed to the public.

Open Day takes place at The Alexandra, Birmingham Saturday 11 May from 11am – 3pm. Please note that due to the nature of the historic building, access to parts of the venue involves many stairs. For more information about the event, click here.
