The Old Print Works is an old industrial heritage building that was vacated in 2009 and is now run by a charitable company Make it Sustainable Ltd. It has a range of social, cultural and environmental aims and is intended to make a difference for the locality, Balsall Heath, one of the most deprived areas of Birmingham, as well as for the wider creative community.
The Old Print Works is a viable social business, renting out a series of maker spaces and event spaces to support charitable aims. It has grown largely without grant support. The Old Print Works hosts woodworkers, ceramists, photographers and a range of other designer makers and community-facing organisations, together with a whole host of events that celebrate and enrich local culture. Over £400k has been invested in the building so far, securing the building from decline and dereliction.
It is a community space that facilitates designer-making, skill-sharing, art, music and alternative events in an authentic heritage building. It is home to such gems as Ort Café, Ort Gallery, The Gap, Moseley Yoga, Sundragon Pottery and more.
