The Roundhouse was built in 1874 and was originally stables and stores for the Birmingham Corporation. Designed by local architect W.H. Ward, the horseshoe shaped building quickly became a real landmark in the city, but over the last 10 years it has been falling into disrepair. Supporters have the opportunity to visit the Roundhouse and to hear more about the role it plays in Birmingham this summer.

Working in partnership with the Canal & River Trust, and with development funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, plans have been drawn up to revitalise and restore the Grade II* listed building, offering a base from which to explore Birmingham's canal network, a cycle hire and repair workshop and a shared working space for conservation organisations.

The National Trust intend to begin work later in 2017. Until then local people and visitors to the city will have the chance to explore the Roundhouse through a variety of events.
