The festive season is right around the corner and so are many festive events, including local Christmas lights switch ons. Here are those taking place in Shropshire this year.

Market Drayton | Saturday 16 November | 10am - 5pm

Market Drayton Festival of Lights is an annual event. There is a Christmas market with approximately 50 stalls with food vendors, a full day of family entertainment and live music. Fair ground rides and various activities including donkey rides, glitter tattoos and more will take place throughout the day.

The light switch on will be at 5pm.


Shrewsbury - The Square | Wednesday 20 November | 4.30pm - 9pm

Featuring family entertainment, the switch-on of Shrewdolf and complimentary mince pies and mulled wine in Shrewsbury Market Hall.

The light switch on will be at 6.30pm.


Oswestry - Bailey Head | Thursday 21 November | 4.30pm - 7pm

Featuring  carols, festive fun, winter warming food and drink, and a special guest.

The light switch on will be at 6.30pm.


Newport | Friday 22 November | 5pm-8pm

Enjoy lots of free entertainment, including a fun fair, a lantern parade, Santa and his reindeer and late night shopping.


Shifnal | Saturday 23 November | 1pm - 8pm

Featuring live music, stalls, street food and a bar in the town centre, plus visits from Father Christmas.

The light switch on will be at 6.45pm.


Madeley Centre | Saturday 30 November | 9am - 5pm

Featuring a Christmas street market, activities, Santa’s grotto and Santa’s sleigh parade.


Wellington - Market Square | Saturday 30 November | 10am - 6pm

Featuring up to 30 stalls on the High Street, entertainment from local groups throughout the day, street performers from FUSE Somerset Outdoor Arts, and even Father Christmas himself.

The light switch on will be at 5pm.


Broseley - High Street | Saturday 30 November | 2pm - 8pm

Featuring a Christmas light switch-on, live music and funfair rides.


Hinstock - The Falcon Inn | Saturday 30 November | 6pm

Santa is visiting Hinstock! Mince pies, mulled wine and a good time to be had.
