Artists are being invited to help create a new “mini mural trail” in Shrewsbury - but need to get in touch quickly if they want to be involved.

Shrewsbury BID is working to improve walking and cycling routes around the town during 2025, and part of that will involve creating a more vibrant town centre environment by turning street furniture into works of art.

People are now being invited to apply for the chance to create murals on selected items of street furniture, such as bollards and signal boxes, with a deadline of Monday 6 January 2025, for applications.

Stephanie Mansell-Jones, of Shrewsbury BID, said the aim was to create a trail of murals under the theme of ‘Myths, Legends and Folk Tales of Shropshire’ to celebrate the county’s culture, history and creativity.

She said: “We are delighted to have been successful in securing funding through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to enhance walking and cycling routes in Shrewsbury town centre.

“The initiative aims to improve the overall appeal of walking and cycling in the town by creating a more vibrant and visually appealing environment, so we are inviting artists to help create a mini mural trail as part of that.

“People may remember a few years ago when murals were first created on phone cabinets in the town centre, which still provoke a positive reaction when visitors see them now.

“Unfortunately we are working to quite a tight deadline to ensure we can get the new murals in place by the spring, so artists need to apply by 6 January 2025, to get involved.”
