Spring 2024 marks the 19th year of the annual Ironbridge Gorge Walking Festival - a fantastic opportunity for walkers of all abilities to go out, discover and enjoy some new routes around the beautiful landscape.
With over 60 walks to choose from, spanning shorter dog-friendly jaunts to full day hikes through hills and valleys, walk leaders are chock full of local knowledge and ready to welcome visitors from 4-12 May.
In addition to some ‘themed’ walks, a great way to discover more about the local history, geology and nature, there will be a whole host of interesting routes ranging from 2 to 20 miles. Local walk leaders will take you on a journey through this post-industrial landscape, exploring woodlands, meadows, heathlands, and dingles, many offering glimpses into the past, from old canals and disused railways to lime kilns, tile works and incline planes.
Whilst walkers are welcome to sign up to as few or as many walks as they like, there are also awards available for those looking to challenge themselves across the 9 days. Choose a goal to suit your ability – 25, 50, 75 or 100 miles walked through any combination of 3 or more walks within the 9 days will earn you a medal, distributed at a celebration event on the final Sunday or sent on to you by post.
