The count down is on to the biggest celebrations of the year  - Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, and here in the Midlands there's a plethora of activities planned to mark the occasion.

QUEEN'S PLATINUM JUBILEE AT SVR - Severn Valley Railway, Bewdley, Nr Kidderminster, Thurs 2 -Sun 5 June 

The Severn Valley Railway is putting on a celebration fit for a Queen to mark Her Majesty’s platinum jubilee. 
Crowning the first day of the event will be the unveiling of locomotive 34027, complete with its new name - Elizabeth II - new number - 70 - and purple livery, specially commissioned to mark the jubilee. 
In a nod to the 1953 coronation, there will be 1950s-themed entertainment at each station, including a pop-up milk bar and juke box at The Engine House, a vintage fairground ride at Bridgnorth and live music at Kidderminster.
The Engine House will also be hosting a hand-built Paddington-themed exhibition, presented courtesy of BrickLive, and a display of work by photographer Jack Boskett, showcased under the title From Railways To Royalty.

SAFARI STREET PARTY - West Midland Safari Park, until Sun 5 June

West Midland Safari Park’s Safari Street Party sees gates opening earlier than usual, at 9.30am, with entertainment running daily from 10.30am to 5.15pm. 
Attractions include towering giraffe stilt-walkers, a Caribbean steel band and a bubblelogist. There’s also a kids’ craft club in the Safari Academy, where youngsters can make safari-themed crowns and check out a selection of animal artefacts.
Throughout the week, the park will be fundraising for the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, with the charity’s friendly and knowledgable team on hand to educate families about giraffes and the lives they live in the wild.


CIRCUS VEGAS - NEC, Birmingham, until Sun 5 June

Circus Vegas merges Las Vegas traditions and contemporary styles with extreme stunts and classic clown escapades.
Acts include Edy the Clown and the Danguir Troupe, the latter of whom will be performing a never-before-seen-in-the-UK high-wire & wheel-of-death stunt. 
Roller-skating, hula-hooping, comedy trampolining, juggling and stunt riding also feature in a show that’s promising to offer ‘something for everyone’.


​LEGO LEGENDS - Legoland Discovery Centre, Birmingham, until Sun 5 June

Legoland Discovery Centre is celebrating the country’s emergency services with a host of themed activities.
Youngsters can track down the heroes in Miniland, try their hand at building an emergency-service vehicle to race down the zipwire, check out the Lego City short film in the 4D cinema and meet Lego police hero Max. Plus, as a special thank-you to the emergency services, Blue Light cardholders can purchase tickets to the event for only £9.99 per person.


CORGIS AT THE CASTLE - Shrewsbury Castle, until Sun 5 June

A fun 'scavenger hunt' children’s activity, with a trail card which can be purchased from the Castle, leading children around the grounds to ‘Find the lost Corgis’. Each has a different coloured collar, once they have all been found, return the card to the Castle for a small prize. 


MAXIMO'S JUBILEE MUSEUM TRAIL - Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery, until Sun 5 June

A fun 'scavenger hunt' children’s activity, with a trail card which can be purchased from the museum shop, leading children around the museum to ‘Find the missing Treasures’. Each treasure has a different numbered letter next to it, once you have found them all, spell out the special word, then return the card to the shop to claim your small prize.


WILDERNESS WEEK - Hawkstone Park & Follies, until Sun 5 June

Explore caves, find trolls, cross bridges, climb towers, build dens, spot wildlife and let off steam...


BOSTIN' JUBILEE BASH - The Black Country Living Museum, Dudley, until Sun 5 June


Don your best red, white & blue outfits and step back in time to sample jubilee celebrations across more than 100 years - from Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee in 1897, all the way through to this month’s platinum parties for Elizabeth II. 

Visitors are welcome to offer a helping hand to the museum’s characters, who will be setting up for the jubilee celebration with craft activities and party decorating.

A grand parade will then make its way through the museum, with a special performance of God Save The Queen over on the boat dock.

Live music, Punch & Judy, vintage performances, games, FREE face painting, arts & crafts, children's reading corner, cake competition and food stalls.


DROP IN CROWN MAKING - Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery and Much Wenlock Museum, South Shropshire, Sat 28 May - Sun 5 June

Pop in for a FREE children’s activity with materials supplied for making red, white, blue and gold paper crowns inside the museum.


ROYAL VISITS TO SHROPSHIRE - Shropshire Archives, Shrewbury, Sat 28 May - Sun 5 June (10am - 4pm)

A celebratory slideshow showing a selection of photographs and memorabilia from royal visits to Shropshire and jubilee celebrations over the years


QUEEN VICTORIA'S JUBILEE PARADE - Blists Hill Victorian Town, Sat 28 May - Sun 5 June

Step back in time to 1897 and celebrate Queen Victoria's Jubilee. The site's Victorian Sergeant will whip you into shape, as you practice military drill and musical performances in preparation for presentation to Queen Victoria herself.


COALPORT JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS - Coalport China Museum, Ironbridge, Sat 28 May - Sun 5 June 

Visitors are encouraged to put their artistic talents to good work and produce a portrait of ERII (or anything they want) out of air-drying clay, which they can then take home to paint.


CLOCK MAKING WORKSHOPS  - Enginuity, Ironbridge, Sat 28 May - Sun 5 June 

Make a clock fit for a Queen! Design your own Royal-themed clock face then use the kit provided to make a working clock to hang on the wall to commemorate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee!

Suitable for all ages but younger children may require adult help. All children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Drop in, no need to book (please be aware that at busy times there may be a queue). Workshops run 11am-4pm.


TILE DECORATING WORKSHOPS - Jackfield Tile Museum, Ironbridge, Tues 31 May - Thurs 2 June

Learn and use the Victorian tube-lining technique to outline your design, then fill the gaps with a selection of coloured glazes. 

Leave your tile to be fired in one of our kilns at a temperature of 1030°C, then return to pick it up a few days later (or receive it by post at an extra charge).

SHREWSBURY KRAZY RACES - The Quarry Park, Shrewsbury, Sun 29 May (10am - 5pm)

A free to attend event aiming to bring all manner of races - wild and zany - to towns & cities across the U.K in the form of a traditional SoapBox Derby.

Spectators can cheer on the weird, wacky and wonderful SoapBox entrants and enjoy watching carefully crafted karts being hurtled down a track consisting of chicanes, obstacles, water features and more.

In Shrewsbury's Quarry Park, teams will manouvre their hand-crafted carts along a 300m track - and hopefully avoid the icy waters of the River Severn as they approach the finish line.

Competitors will work their way through a knockout style competition with only the fastest 10 cars making it through to the final in an attempt to take home the winner's trophy.

In addition to watching the action on track, Krazy visitors can also enjoy a host of other attractions including pitch and put, kids activities, food and drink stands, pop-up stalls, a Rock Choir performance and much more...

CELEBRATE THE JUBILEE IN STYLE AT HENCOTE - 2 - 4 June

The View at Hencote has prepared a sumptuous seven-course tasting menu as well as a traditional afternoon tea as the focus of celebrations to mark Her Majesty’s 70-year reign.

The Best of British tasting menu will be available from Thursday to Saturday over the bank holiday weekend, alongside Hencote's popular existing menus. For those who want something a little lighter, the venue will round off the celebrations with a quintessentially British afternoon tea on the Sunday afternoon.

The tour will take in rooms that have been used by present members of the Royal family in visits to Weston. From the collections, the tours will include a variety of treasures that are not normally seen, including paintings of Queen Victoria.
