Fe-fi-fo-fum, a giant of a panto full of fun!

Join Stoke-on-Trent panto favourite Jonathan Wilkes on a giant adventure this Christmas and climb a beanstalk of gigantic proportions to cloudland in the spectacular family pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk.

Joining Jonny on stage will be Musical Theatre, TV personality and Hear’Say star, Noel Sullivan in the role of Fleshcreep, alongside Hollyoaks and Torchwood star Kai Owen who is set to make a return to the Regent Theatre panto as Farmer Trot.

They will be joined by Stoke-on-Trent panto returner Rio Maye as Spirit of the Beans, and West-End performer Michelle Andrews as Princess Jill.

Doomed to sell his trusty cow, join Jack and his family as they fight to outwit the evil giant, win riches beyond his wildest dreams and the hand of the girl he loves. Expect spectacular special effects, stunning song and dance, bundles of audience participation and an amazing 3D Giant.

It simply wouldn't be Christmas without a visit to The Regent Theatre to enjoy the glitz and glamour on offer at the venue's spectacular annual panto.

This year is no exception with legendary local lad Jonathan Wilkes in the central role of Jack Trot. Wilkes always makes the panto his own by integrating familiar references to his beloved home town and by creating a lovable, likeable, funny and cheeky central character which the audience inevitably adore - hence the reason that they come back year after year to see him.

Jack and the Beanstalk The Giant Pantomime Spectacular tells the well loved story of a country boy living with his dad, the long suffering Farmer Trot played by the very engaging Kai Owen, and who has a very sweet girlfriend Princess Jill, sweetly depicted by Michelle Andrews, as well as an array of cute animals including the beloved cow Daisy. The plot centres around Daisy needing to be rescued after Jack unknowingly sells her to the baddie Fleshcreep, played menacingly by Noel Sullivan, who intends to make her into steaks for his master the Giant who lives high up in the sky. This is where the Beanstalk comes into play as it is the advanced mode of access to beloved Daisy! Yes, the plot is fantastical and comical with some technological twists and turns but it all makes for sheer fun and engaging entertainment. Of course, it would not be panto without a bit of beautiful fairy sparkle too and the lovely Spirit of the Beans is played by the talented Rio Maya who sprinkles some magic wherever she goes plus there is a whole array of jokes, games and 3D glasses in the mix as well making sure that there really is something for everyone on stage.

The key attraction about panto is that it remains pure family entertainment for all ages from toddlers to grandparents and at Christmas this is a big plus on the social calendar. It is a complete joy to go out during the festive season and just be in the moment with loved ones having a fun time in lovely surroundings. The Regent Theatre never disappoints with their Christmas production as it is always a visual spectacle which delights and enthrals and it is undoubtedly the highlight of the theatre year for community engagement and audience appreciation and it is always on the calendar for many local families.

Credit must go to the Writer Alan McHugh and the production team at Crossroads Pantomimes for creating a truly local offering which the audience can relate to alongside the traditional tale. The Musical Director Aaron Nice needs a shout out for creating a memorable score with familiar tracks. The choreographer James Bennett has also produced a stunning display and the costumes are always beautifully visual and wonderfully displayed by the cast as well as the talented dancers in the ensemble including several from the Wilkes Academy.

A real highlight must also be mentioned and that is the use of 3D visuals in the production which are exciting and outstanding… it is essential to experience them to understand how they add a real extra thrill to an evening of seasonal entertainment. This is one festive offering which is not to be missed! On until January 7th 2024. A real Christmas highlight in the heart of the Potteries!
