Newcastle High Street is to be the setting for a large-scale sci-fi dance spectacle this coming weekend.

Presented by The Place and Appetite, Future Cargo is the work of Frauke Requardt and David Rosenberg and is performed atop a 40ft haulage truck where audience members wear headphones to connect them to the strange world and events inside the truck.

The arrival of a mystery shipment from an unknown location sparks reports of fireballs, power surges and electromagnetic waves in the area. As the side rolls up on the truck, an enigmatic machine is revealed, and a strange and unstoppable process begins. A compelling invitation to make contact evolves and a seduction occurs between a human and an other-worldly force. But what happens next? You'll need to pop along to find out...

Appetite Director, Gemma Thomas, said: “We wanted to bring a big show to the centre of Newcastle, giving people this spectacle of an experience right on their doorsteps. Imagine this, you walk on to Newcastle’s High Street, there’s a 40ft lorry in front of you. You put some headphones on, take a seat and slowly the shutters rise up on the lorry transporting you temporarily to another world. The headphones are buzzing with music and you’re watching people dance in a lorry, wearing head to toe lycra silver suits on conveyor belts. Get a ticket and head along to this not to be missed amazing two nights. Why not make a night of it and enjoy all the wonderful bars and restaurants we have in town too. We love to make memorable moments for the area, it’s our tenth year doing so, and we hope this one will be one to top! We’d love you to join us

Future Cargo takes place in Newcastle Town Centre on Friday 1 and Saturday 2 July at 7pm & 9pm.  Tickets cost £12 and can be purchased from New Vic online or by calling 01782 717962.

Food and drink vendors will also be onsite.
