This October half-term, New Vic Borderlines are inviting families to join them for their popular Fab Food and Fun Folktales sessions - a free event for members of the community of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy.

Following the success of their initial project in summer 2020 to combat local food poverty, Fab Food and Fun Folktales has now become a tradition in the Borderlines’ calendar and the team have successfully distributed over a thousand picnic boxes to members of the community since the project began.

Fab Food and Fun Folktales is an interactive storytelling performance which includes activities and games and a free picnic for everyone in attendance to enjoy. This half-term, the traditional fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel will be the focus of the performances which take place at the New Vic Theatre on Thursday 31 October and Saturday 2 November at the following times: 10.30am-11.30am; 12.30pm-1.30pm and 2.30pm-3.30pm.

The sessions also provide an opportunity for children and their families including from incoming communities such as Ukraine and Afghanistan to meet others, have fun, and share traditional stories – many of which are common to all cultures.

New Vic Borderlines Director Sue Moffat said: “Part of our Brighter Horizons project, Fab Food and Fun Folktales is an interactive recreating of the Hansel and Gretel story drawing on connected tales from across the world. Families will help create the sounds and songs to tell the tale and help Hansel and Gretel find fab food and a happy ending.”
