The Brewhouse Arts Centre has partnered with Support Staffordshire in launching the Women’s Health Festival, a ground-breaking initiative dedicated to tackling health inequalities in the community.
The free event will take place at the Brewhouse on Wednesday 30 April. It will provide a safe and inclusive space for women to engage in vital discussions about their health and wellbeing.
Developed from relationships built within the communities of South East Staffordshire, the festival is the result of dedicated efforts by Gulsoom, Community Development Officer at Support Staffordshire, and a host of partners committed to championing women’s health.
The event will bring together six NHS clinical health teams, including Cervical Screening and Breast Screening specialists, to share their expertise and create an environment where women feel empowered to take charge of their health.
Alongside expert-led discussions, the festival will feature interactive workshops, panel discussions, and creative sessions designed to educate and inspire positive change.
These activities will provide women with valuable resources, knowledge, and peer support to help navigate their personal health journeys.
Gulsoom said, “This event has been shaped by the voices and experiences of the women in our community. It’s about breaking down barriers, addressing inequalities, and making sure every woman feels seen, heard, and supported in her health journey. I am incredibly proud to see this vision come to life and look forward to the impact it will have.”
“The Brewhouse Arts Centre is honoured to collaborate with Support Staffordshire on this important initiative,” said Charlie Birtles, Audience and Participation Development Officer. “We are committed to using the arts and community programming as a way to spark meaningful conversations, and this festival is a perfect example of that. It’s a fantastic opportunity to bring people together in an inclusive and supportive space.”
Chief Executive of Support Staffordshire, Garry Jones, added, “We are absolutely delighted to be leading this important work with our communities. It is high time that gender-based health inequality was systematically removed from our public and community services, and we hope this will be an important first step on that journey.”
The Women’s Health Festival is made possible thanks to the support of local community groups, health professionals, artists, and collaborators, including University Hospital of Derby and Burton, Midland Partnership Foundation Trust, The Integrated Care Board, Burton and South Derbyshire College, East Staffs Primary Care Network, and more.
