As International Women’s Day approaches, a free event in Coventry will highlight the real-life health challenges women face - and the essential research happening in the region to address them.
Hosted by the University of Warwick as part of the Resonate Festival, We Need to Talk…About Women’s Health takes place on Thursday 13 March at the Belgrade Theatre. The event will bring together leading scientists and health experts to explore critical issues, from reproductive care to menopause and beyond.
Professor Erin Greaves, from the Department of Biomedical Sciences at The University of Warwick, explained: “Women’s health has been neglected for too long, leaving many to suffer in silence with conditions that are under-researched, misunderstood, or overlooked. That’s why we’re hosting We Need to Talk…About Women’s Health - to open up essential conversations and share the latest research that can drive real change.
“Through science, discussion, and lived experiences, we aim to inform, empower, and push for better healthcare solutions for all women.”
The event will feature leading experts, including Dr Nighat Arif, a GP specialising in women’s health and a regular media commentator, alongside researchers from The University of Warwick. Topics will include endometriosis, the vaginal microbiome, and access to care.
Guests will have the opportunity to engage with experts, ask questions, and learn how Warwick’s research is shaping the future of women’s health.
Dr Kerry Baker, Associate Director at the Warwick Institute of Engagement, added: “This is going to be one of our biggest Resonate Lates yet. We’re incredibly excited to be showcasing this topic and widening discussions with our local communities about the extra medical challenges faced by women. We are welcoming back Dr Nighat Arif to share her wealth of knowledge in this area alongside some of The University of Warwick’s researchers carrying out related activities.”
Resonate Lates are part of the Resonate programme, an annual calendar of free events and activities developed in collaboration with local communities. The events are designed to inspire curiosity, spark conversations, and lead to potential future collaborations.
We Need to Talk…About Women’s Health is free and open to all, but spaces are limited. For more information and to secure your place, visit the website.
