This holiday season The University of Warwick is transforming into a hub of festive fun, starting with the Lights Switch-On hosted by BBC Radio 2 presenter Richie Anderson.
BBC Radio 2 star and Strictly Come Dancing contender Richie Anderson will host the University of Warwick’s staff and student Christmas Lights Switch-Onon the 27th November.
Richie will host the main stage with performances from Warwick’s own Small Band, Warwick Gospel, Brass Band and Chamber Choir, kicking off a season of celebratory cheer at Warwick.
There is an exciting range of events and activities throughout November and December which members of the public can come and enjoy.
Science lovers can look forward to the return of the award-winning Warwick Christmas Lectures, running Monday 25th November and Monday 2nd December. Hosted by some of Warwick’s top scientists, you’ll witness mind-blowing experiments and engaging talks that bring science to life with a festive twist. For those who like to get hands-on, the Live Labs before each lecture will give attendees a chance to dive into the wonders of science with interactive exhibits.
The Smeds and The Smoos will be landing at Warwick Arts Centre from Tuesday 26th November to Sunday 29th December. Based on the award-winning book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, this lively stage adaptation promises to take you on a heartwarming, interplanetary adventure filled with music, laughter, and a message of friendship.
On Thursday 5th December, the campus will host the Seasonal Makers Market, an event brimming with unique handcrafted gifts from local traders. Accompanied by live festive music, this market is a great opportunity to pick up sustainable, one-of-a-kind presents while soaking in the Christmas cheer. And while you’re there check out the new exhibition at the Mead Gallery.
And if you’re a fan of classic Christmas tunes, don’t miss The Rat Pack – A Swingin’ Christmas at the Sands later that same day, when the legendary trio brings their smooth sounds and timeless hits to Warwick Arts Centre for a festive night of glamour and nostalgia.
For those in need of a good laugh to brighten up the cold winter nights, the 13th December is the date to mark on your calendar. Comedian Sara Pascoe will be leading an all-star line-up including; Phil Wang, Lou Sanders, and Ivo Graham. With a mix of sharp wit, stand-up brilliance, and plenty of festive banter, it’s guaranteed to be a comedy show you won’t want to miss.
To top it all off, Strictly Come Dancing star Anton Du Beke will be taking to the stage on Sunday 15th December for a dazzling evening of music, dance, and festive fun. Joined by a live band and incredible dancers, Anton’s Christmas show is set to be a spectacular highlight of the season.
