Solihull is set to make history with the launch of its very first Pride event this September, bringing a vibrant celebration of LGBTQ+ culture and diversity to the town centre.
The event, being organised by Solihull Business Improvement District, will take place on Saturday 6th September and promises to be a spectacular day of inclusivity, joy, and unity for people of all ages, backgrounds, and identities.
Solihull Pride has been made possible thanks to support from Headline Sponsor npower Business Solutions (nBS) and Associate Sponsors BNP Paribas Personal Finance, CGI, Solihull College & University Centre and Touchwood.
The one-day event will offer a series of events and activities, including a colourful parade, live music performances and special guests including award-winning cabaret artist Fatt Butcher and celebrity hairdressers Royston Blythe and Nick Malenko. The event will be compered by esteemed local presenter Phil Oldershaw, and feature musical tributes to Madonna, Cher and Elton John.
The event is expected to attract thousands of attendees from the local community and beyond, aiming to celebrate diversity while promoting acceptance and equality for all.
Melanie Palmer, Chief Executive of Solihull BID, said: “We are absolutely delighted to host the first-ever Solihull Pride event right here in the heart of our town centre. This celebration is a vibrant reflection of Solihull’s diversity, inclusivity, and community spirit.
“It will be wonderful to see people from all walks of life coming together to share in the joy, pride, and unity that this event represents.”
Anthony Ainsworth, Chief Operating Officer (COO), nBS, added: “We are delighted to be Headline Sponsor of Solihull’s inaugural Pride event which is taking place right on our doorstep.
“At nBS, we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive working environment, ensuring everyone is comfortable being their authentic selves, so it is very important to us to raise awareness and celebrate Pride within the local community. We are certain the event will be a great success, and one that truly champions equality for all.”
The day’s festivities will kick off at 10.30am on the Main Stage in Mell Square with the Parade beginning at 11am. Following the parade, and running until 5pm, the celebrations will continue back in Mell Square with musical tributes, the Big Fatt Dance Party and visits from Royston and Nick, much loved for their starring roles in The Real Housewives of Cheshire.
Town centre businesses will be supporting the event by decorating their storefronts, creating an atmosphere of inclusivity throughout Solihull's bustling town centre. Some of the town’s best hospitality venues will also be hosting further events and activities later into the evening.
The community-focused event is free to attend, with all members of the public encouraged to join in and celebrate unity.
