Featuring much-loved songs such as ‘If I Were a Rich Man,’ ‘Sunrise, Sunset’ and "Matchmaker,’ Fiddler on the Roof tells the heartwarming and humorous story of Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman, and his five headstrong daughters.

“This is an amazing and impactful story that is full of life and joy, through to heartache and utter disbelief,” says director Mark Tolchard. “Fiddler on the Roof is a snapshot of a point in history that not only has current themes but, as an enduring musical, packs many an unexpected punch in its insightful storytelling and honesty.”

Against a backdrop of changing social values and political turmoil, Tevye grapples with maintaining his cultural traditions, particularly when faced with his three older daughters’ unpalatable choice of husbands. The show highlights the importance of community and its togetherness in shared experiences, as well as that of family and being connected to one another.

A live orchestra, authentic costumes and stunning set design all help transport audiences to early 20th century Russia and the vibrant village of Anatevka, where the action takes place.

“The original production of Fiddler on the Roof opened on Broadway in 1964 and became the first show to surpass 3,000 performances in a single run. It also held the record for the longest-running Broadway musical for almost 10 years,” continues Mark.

“The show mirrors the rollercoaster that is life and how we seek to make sense of it. You’ll be laughing out loud one minute and then in tears the next!”

Fiddler on the Roof runs from 21-29 June. Tickets are available from the Rugby Theatre box office on 01788 541234, or www.rugbytheatre.co.uk.
