Fans of iconic 1990s outfit Talk Talk, particularly their later more experimental work and band leader Mark Hollis’s solo album, won’t want to miss the Midlands debut of Held By Trees.
Multi-instrumentalist David Joseph’s “ambient/improv/prog/post-rock project” features a host of musicians who performed with Talk Talk and Hollis - as well as the likes of Pink Floyd, Dire Straits and Blur - who play music inspired by the minimalist sound of the band’s much-lauded albums Spirit Of Eden and Laughing Stock.
Up until now the music has all been instrumental, but a new seven-track EP sees them collaborating with singer-songwriter Martin Smith in a move that is as inspirational as it appears natural. For proof look no further than the stunning 13-minute epic Lay Your Troubles Down, which I’d wager will be worth the ticket price alone.
