Free outdoor yoga sessions will be taking place in Dudley borough as part of a Black Country initiative next month.

Park Yoga, a charity that provides free yoga sessions, is launching a session in Brierley Hill with the support of Dudley Council and Active Black Country.

The first session takes place on Sunday May 5 at the open space located next to Oakfield Community Centre on Brettell Lane from 9.30 to 10.30am.

The sessions are open to all ages and abilities and there’s no need to book in advance. All people need to do is bring a yoga mat if they have one or a towel.

Sessions will take place every Sunday up until September 15.

Dr Mayada Abuaffan, director of public health, said:

Through these sessions, we hope people are encouraged to take time to look after their own wellbeing through being active and enjoying the benefits of being outdoors. Yoga is great for improving mood, reducing stress and improving muscle strength and flexibility. I encourage you all to take part.

Park Yoga will also be taking place at other venues across the Black Country.

The location for the Brettell Lane session is served by the number six bus route, alternatively free parking is available on the Oakfield Community Centre car park.

This initiative follows the success of the free weekly Park Active sessions that take place in parks across the borough, and Dudley parkrun.

Other free exercise opportunities in the borough include free outdoor equipment and exercise classes at the healthy hubs, wellbeing walks and Dance To Health programmes.
