Newhampton Arts Centre and Jazz at Wolverhampton are busy preparing for the second jazz festival coming to Wolverhampton this summer, Jazz at New Horizons at Newhampton Arts Centre.

The one-day festival is due to take place on Saturday 23rd July 2022 from 2.30pm and will be filled with live music from some of the most renowned jazz acts of today, all within NAC's covered outdoor performance area. With real ale and hot food available from Wolverhampton-based Arts Cafe.

Headlining this summer music event is funky bone maestro Dennis Rollins, debuting his all-new groove outfit ‘FUNKY-FUNK!’. An award-winning trombone player and still at the forefront of jazz worldwide, Dennis brings an electrifying band, exploring infectious grooves with sumptuous funky trombone melodie.

Also on the bill are Dinosaur, Laura Jurd’s long running jazz quartet. They have earned a reputation as some of the most remarkable UK jazz musicians of their generation. Having played at some of the world's most iconic jazz festivals, the band goes from strength to strength as they enter their 11th year of trumpet-led, improvisatory magic.

Voted Best Vocalist in the British Jazz Awards 2019, Sara Dowling will also make an appearance. The fabulous fearlessness with which she approaches the act of singing, and jaw-dropping musicality she brings, makes Sara one of the UK’s leading Jazz vocalists.

The Howl Quartet brings together four of the finest young improvisers from London’s vibrant jazz scene. The group tie their passion for jazz with folk music, contemporary grooves and free improvisation.

Trevelyan Wright, CEO, Newhampton Arts Centre said:

“Our first-ever jazz festival was one of last year’s high points. This year we’re looking forward to welcoming audiences back to our big top tent for another magical day of jazz under canvas.”

The New Horizons Stage was the arts centre's response to COVID in 2021, allowing live music to resume in the city. The big-top style tent stage will once again be situated in NAC's central courtyard – allowing for 100% external ventilation and events to be presented ‘as outside’ but under canvas.

Booking your tickets soon is highly recommended, where you can still take advantage of NAC’s early bird ticketing offer. Admission: Early Bird £29.50, Advance £35 and available from newhamptonarts.co.uk.
