The Battle of Evesham Grand Parade is part of the award-winning festival commemorating one of the pivotal battles in English history. Held annually in the picturesque heart of Evesham, the parade marks the dramatic and tumultuous events of the Battle of Evesham, fought on August 4, 1265, during the Second Barons' War.

The Grand Parade is a spectacular display of medieval pageantry, consisting of up to 700 re-enactors, 20 knights on horseback and over 30 regional Mayors who recognise the importance of the Battle of Evesham in World politics – setting the foundations for democracies globally. Participants wear meticulously crafted period costumes, embodying the knights, soldiers, and civilians of the 13th century. The parade is an immersive experience, with the town's streets transformed into a living tableau of medieval life.

The event begins with a noisy and colourful procession through the town, led by mounted knights in armour, followed by foot soldiers, archers, and peasants. The parade is accompanied by the sound of minstrels, the neighing of horses, and the clashing of swords, creating an authentic and evocative atmosphere. Spectators line the streets, eager to witness the grandeur and drama of this historical parade, cheering the re-enactors on – many who have travelled from across Europe to take part.

Concluding at Simon de Montfort’s memorial stone at the foot of Evesham Abbey’s alter, where the rebel leader was buried – the knights and soldier take to their knees and bow their heads as a service is held to remember the 5,000 men who died on the fateful day in August 1265.

The Battle of Evesham Grand Parade serves not only as a commemoration of a significant historical event but also as a celebration of local heritage and community spirit. It brings history to life, fostering a connection between the past and present and ensuring that the legacy of the Battle of Evesham continues to be remembered and appreciated.

The Grand Parade will muster at St Lawrences Church at 10am on the 3rd of August, leaving through the church gates, turning right onto Vine St, then heading down Bridge Street and turning right into Abbey Park for the commemoration service. Vine Street will be closed for around 30 minuets to allow the 700+ re-enactors to pass through
