Home to several species of blossom trees, including plum, pear, apple, and cherry blossom, Hanbury Hall will be celebrating with the Festival of Blossom this month.
From Monday 15 - Sunday 28 April, there will be a range of activities including blossom bathing, crafts, talks and storytelling.
Inspired by the Japanese tradition of 'Hanami', or flower viewing, the Festival of Blossom, created by the National Trust, invites people to take a moment and appreciate the beauty of blooming blossoms that can be seen across the country.
Mark the festival at Hanbury Hall by taking part in blossom bathing in the walled orchard, filled with 56 varieties of heritage apple trees adorned with pink-tinged blossoms. Help yourself to a yoga mat and take a deep breath as you rest beneath the beautiful apple blossom. Take in their gorgeous fragrance and listen to the sounds of nature all around you.
Join gardener Nicki for a short talk amongst the apple trees to learn more about the historic orchard on Wednesday 17 April and Wednesday 24 April at 12.15pm. Inside the hall, explore a seasonal exhibition featuring information and poems inspired by blossom.
Get creative in an art workshop, Spring Flowers in Watercolour, led by local artist Shirley Sloman on Thursday 25 April, 1pm - 3pm. Learn how to use wet paper with watercolours and how to draw and paint blossom trees. Create your own artwork with materials provided and take it home with you at the end of the class. £12.50 per person, booking essential.
There are also opportunities for families to get involved in the Festival of Blossom, with blossom crafts for children in the Long Gallery on Sunday 21 April and Sunday 28 April from 11am – 3pm. Make your own blossom tree out of card and tissue paper so you can enjoy these beautiful blooms at home. £2 per craft, no booking needed.
Visit the second-hand bookshop and join a storytelling session with local author Ruth Goddard who will be reading from her books ‘Blossom and the Bees’ on Saturday 20 April, Sunday 21 April, and Saturday 27 April, 11am – 3pm. Blossom is a little girl whose best friend is a bee. Find out all about her adventures in her garden, whilst you learn all about the exciting things she sees with Mr Bee. Ruth’s books will also be available to purchase, along with a whole range of pre-loved books on sale in the bookshop.
