From 21 March and throughout 2023, Croome in Worcestershire, will host My Happy Place, an exhibition by stitch and textile art group Threads.

Like so many others, Threads were not able to meet in person throughout 2020 and their online catchups just weren’t the same. My Happy Place represents a way of coming together in person to share common interests, to make work collaboratively and to be supportive to each other. The exhibition is their way of celebrating all that is wonderful about the world through the varied medium of stitch.

The exhibition will display four arched structures which represent each of the four seasons, surrounding a quiet central space containing three-dimensional textiles that provide a space for contemplation. Each arch will display textile works that characterise the current season, incorporating stitched panels that depict responses to the theme of My Happy Place.

The panels include a range of different textile techniques sewn into a patchwork using the traditional Korean technique known as pojagi. Fabrics have been chosen deliberately for their translucence, enabling visitors to see through and catch glimpses of the multiple layers as they build throughout the exhibition. This layering has a dual purpose as it makes visible some of the methods used and offers views into the three-dimensional works at the centre of the display.

The exhibition takes place at National Trust property Croome in Worcestershire runs from 21 March 2023 until 8 January 2024 and will evolve throughout in response to seasonal changes and physical, geographic, and emotional changes that reflect the participants personal place of happiness.
