The AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run hits the streets on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 May for the biggest celebration of Brummie running in a decade.

It’s the Midlands’ most popular running event with 16,000 people of all ages signing up to take to the streets of the city and – new for 2025 – the world-famous Alexander Stadium.

The 10k and half marathon route shows off the best of Birmingham as runners set off from Centenary Square and visit the Jewellery Quarter, St Paul’s Square, the Mailbox, Grand Central, and more. Half marathon participants will also experience the scenic views of Cannon Hill Park and Edgbaston.

The event is loaded with high-energy entertainment from start to finish, with rocking on-course music, charity cheer points, motivational local support, and finish-line DJs, giving runners an incredible welcome home at the finish at Smithfield in the city centre to refresh at food stalls, meet wonderful charity partners and enjoy a post-run party.

Super Saturday at the Alexander Stadium
The Great Birmingham Run festival of running starts on Saturday 3 May, with the Junior and Mini Great Birmingham Runs at the iconic Alexander Stadium. “Super Saturday” offers young runners the chance to race on the same track that hosted the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Minis (aged 3-8) will tackle a 1.5km course, while Juniors (9-15) face a 2.5km challenge. This initiative aims to inspire the next generation of runners by providing them with a world-class experience.

It’s on Super Saturday that Mini and Junior runners will meet Livi Sheldon and Karenjeet Kaur Bains, better known as the incredible Diamond and Athena from TV’s Gladiators, official starters for the Mini and Junior runs.

Make it your business
Now is the time to leave the spreadsheets and wrap-up that office meeting – next on the agenda is the AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run Business Challenge, with team spaces still available in the 10k.

The Business Challenge is a corporate running challenge open to organisations of all shapes and sizes, is suitable for groups large or small (minimum team of 4) and is great for all ages and abilities. If you’re tired of cringey teambuilding exercises, it’s a great way to invest in workforce wellbeing for a happier and healthier team.

Companies taking part in the Business Challenge this year include last year’s 10k winners Arup and half-marathon winners RSM UK Audit LLP. Joining them in the 2025 Business Challenge will be law firms Pinsent Masons and St Philip’s Chambers, healthcare company Air Liquide, building consultancy Ridge and Partners LLP and engineering company Altair, among many others.

A super stylish medal for all finishers
Featuring a sleek, modern design that captures the energy and spirit of Birmingham’s biggest organised run, the 2025 half marathon and 10k finishers’ medal is the perfect reward for the hard work and dedication of every participant on Sunday 4 May.

This year’s Great Birmingham Run medal is a design classic: The zig-zags on the left of the medal draw inspiration from the Birmingham flag: a nod to the city that powers this race. The circular patterns? That’s straight from Brum’s iconic architecture: think bold, and beautiful.

Inspirational runners from across the country
Manchester-based BBC social media manager Grace Winterburn is running the Great Birmingham half marathon to raise money for the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham.

Ten years ago, the hospital completely changed Grace’s life after she had 12-hour spinal fusion surgery – two titanium rods and 23 screws put into her spine – to correct 90- and 60-degree scoliosis curvatures.

Grace says she wouldn’t be able to walk and live the life she has now, never mind a run, without the expert care of the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, which is why she wanted to fundraise for them by running the race.

A chance to do your bit for charity
More than £10 million has been raised for charities at Great Birmingham Runs since 2017 and runners still have time to support their chosen good cause to raise even more funds for life-changing projects.

Join the Great Birmingham Run team of everyday heroes raising millions for charity. Choose your worthy cause from dozens of fantastic charities, including British Heart Foundation, Alzheimer’s Society, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity and Macmillan Cancer Support.

If you’re still considering signing up this year, you need to hurry, as there are less than 30 places left for the Mini and Junior events and 250 places for the 10k. The Great Birmingham Run half marathon has sold out.
