The Rep have announced details of seven additional productions in their already bumper spring 2025 season.
Arriving directly from the West End, the Olivier-award winning Showstopper! The Improvised Musical will be creating a 100% improvised and fully realized musical live on The House stage.
For two performances only (Monday 12 &Tuesday 13 May), the cast of Showstopper! The Improvised Musical will transform suggestions from the audience into an all-singing, all-dancing musical full of the sweeping storylines, dazzling dance, soaring songs, hilarious characters you’d expect from a West End musical – the only difference is that everything is made up on the spot.
Later in the year, to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the classic Bollywood action-adventure film, Sholay - Yeh Dosti: Celebrating 50 Years of Sholay will be holding an unforgettable evening (Saturday 9 August) of mesmerising dance performances choreographed to Sholay‘s legendary soundtrack in The House.
Presented by LuvEntertainment (Desi Central, Comedy of Black Origin, Ladies of Laughter, Live at The Rep), Yeh Dosti: Celebrating 50 Years of Sholay promises to be an amazing evening of unforgettable dance and music that will transport you back to the heart of Bollywood’s golden era, honouring the legacy of the iconic Bollywood movie that has captivated audiences for half a century.
Following the sold-out screenings of Present Laughter and Prima Facie at The Rep, National Theatre Live returns with two new cinematic releases of critically acclaimed productions: Experience The Importance of Being Earnest like never before as Oscar Wilde’s most celebrated work will be screened at The Rep (Monday 17 March) in a joyful reimagining of the celebrated comedy, starring three-time Olivier Award-winner Sharon D Clarke and Ncuti Gatwa (Doctor Who, Sex Education).
The second National Theatre Live production will be the first ever adaptation of Stanley Kubrick's comedy masterpiece Dr Strangelove (Monday 21 April). Seven-time BAFTA Award winner Steve Coogan, stars in this explosively funny satirical comedy about a rogue U.S General who triggers a nuclear attack.
Both productions will be screened in The Studio, which is fitted with cutting-edge lighting and sound equipment as well as a cinematic quality screen, with two screenings of each at 1pm and 7pm.
Kicking off The Rep’s live programming in The Studio, is Everybody Wants To Be Ronaldo, a raucous, high-octane Grime-sical set in the suburbs of Birmingham. Created by Birmingham-based TECTUM theatre, this brand-new production explores the pressure of football academies on young men and plays for a limited run of three performances over two days in The Door (Friday 21 & Saturday 22 March).
Birmingham-based Deaf Explorer bring their pioneering new show, What’s My Ident?. Written and performed by Aaron Virdeen, What’s My Ident? is an enlightening window into Aaron’s own journey towards self-discovery, as he struggles with his sexuality as well as being a hard of hearing Punjabi lad from Wolverhampton. This poignant, funny play will be staged at The Rep for two performances only in The Door (Friday 28 & Saturday 29 March).
In July, ENIGMA machine expert Dr Mark Baldwin will be presenting Codebreakers – The Story of ENIGMA in The Studio (Saturday 26 July). This show will give audiences an exciting and rare opportunity to view one of the very few surviving Enigma machines and then see a hands-on demonstration on how the Allied Codebreakers deciphered a vast number of German secret messages.
Coventry-based EGO Arts will be staging their cheeky comedy about life and death for all the family YOU KNOW MY MUM, for two days only in The Door (Friday 27 June & Saturday 28 June). The story follows Alex, a 25-year-old year old woman with Down’s syndrome, who is struggling with the death of her mum.
This production is led by neurodivergent and/or learning-disabled actors and was devised to be as accessible as possible for cast and audience members alike.
