Digbeth First Friday has become a well loved monthly social event in Birmingham’s art calendar, showcasing the latest exhibitions and live performances by some of the city’s most exciting galleries and artist-run spaces.
On Friday 3 May everyone is invited to come and celebrate this 10 year milestone, from 4pm until 8pm at venues on Heath Mill Lane and Fazeley Street, where there will be a publishing fair, and the opening of new exhibitions by artists from Birmingham, across the UK and Europe.
Digbeth First Friday represents the incredible DIY and entrepreneurial spirit of the artists that make Digbeth the creative and independent place that it is. With so much recent negative news about the devaluing of culture in Birmingham, this is our chance to celebrate and support the abundance of artists and artist-run galleries, studios and live performance spaces that keep our city fresh and vibrant.
The first Digbeth First Friday took place on Friday 2 May 2014, after Friction Arts suggested piloting an after hours event to Grand Union and Eastside Projects. The first one saw 12 different events taking place, including Digbeth Dining Club, a celebration of being European, a talk about drinking with Gilbert and George, and marmalade on toast with the infamous Bill Drummond of the KLF.
A guided tour will take place for those new to Digbeth First Friday - meet outside Eastside Projects at 5.15pm!
See the Digbeth First Friday website for up to date information and more events to be confirmed.
