An imaginative interpretation of Coventry's ring road and city map.
The Coventry ring road, affectionately dubbed the Bling Road, stands as a unique artistic representation of the city and its collective identity.
Crafted by local artists Karen Johnson and Mary Courtney, and inspired by their love for Coventry, the Bling Road is an imaginative interpretation of the ring road and city map, adorned with donated bling—unwanted costume jewellery, broken watches, buttons and more.
Exhibited at the LTB Showrooms and now at the Coventry Transport Museum, this creative masterpiece incorporates symbolic elements, such as decorative mounds representing junctions, each telling a story. From Two Tone influences at the black and white junction, to Asian-style jewellery at Foleshill, the piece is a mosaic of cultural and historical references.
Thirty contributors shared their bling, each piece carrying unique narratives, such as a discarded tiara, and uniform buttons from a Royal Marine. The Bling Road, much like Coventry itself, invites deeper exploration, revealing tales and places that shape the city’s rich tapestry.
