The Ludlow Fringe Festival returns this month, providing 11 days of entertainment in the picturesque South Shropshire town. Shakespeare, comedy, dance, theatre, workshops, carnival and magic all feature in the festival's eclectic programme of well known names and upcoming artists.
Theatre highlights include Flabbergast Theatre's production of Romeo & Juliet which shows at Ludlow Castle from Friday 14 to Friday 21 June. A one-woman show titled Agnes - based on the life of local legend Dame Agnes Hunt (co-founder of Oswestry's Orthopaedic Hospital and Derwen College) will be performed at Ludlow Assembly Rooms' Studio Two on Thursday 20 June, whilst a staging of Robert Louis Stevenson's The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde takes place at Oscars (also on Thursday 20 June). Younger audiences can embark on an adventure with Theatrix Arts who will stage two performances of A Dragon's Tale (also at Oscars) on Saturday 22 June - 11am & 2pm.
For an evening of comedy magic check out twin tricksters Kane & Abel who'll be bringing their show Twinpossible to the festival on Saturday 15 June. The following night (Sunday 16 June), it's the turn of Edinburgh Fringe favourites, the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre, to entertain. Expect an hour of songs, sketches, socks and violence, as they tell the true story of the Post Office Scandal at Oscars.
For more festival chuckles check out Harriet Dyer (Friday 14 June) and Drew Taylor (Friday 21 June), both performing at Ludlow Brewery.
Music lovers can indulge in the sights and sounds of Andalucia at Ludlow Assembly Rooms on Tuesday 18 June when the award-winning Daniel Martinez Flamenco Company present a ‘stunning Flamenco production’ accompanied by chamber orchestra. More fabulous Flamenco riffs are guaranteed from returning festival favourites Manos Puestas - performing at Ludlow Brewery on Saturday 15 June.
Other musical contributions come from cover band Laurel Canyon (Ludlow Brewery, Thursday 13 June); jazz singer Annette Gregory (Bill's Kitchen, Friday 14 June) and singer-songwriter Deborah Rose (Oscars, Wednesday 19 June). A fusion of upbeat electronics, bass, guitar, vocals and DJ are promised when dance band The Badger Cavalry take to the stage at The Ludlow Brewery on Saturday 22 June.
