The full programme of artists for Light Night Worcester 2023 have been announced ahead of its return later this month.
Organised by The Arches Worcester Festivals, Light Night is a free event for all ages, running on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 February from 6.30 - 9.30pm.
This year's spectacular programme features nine creative and interactive works and playful street performers.
Lampounette - TILT6.30 – 9.30pm at Cathedral Square
Giant desk lamps called Lampounette have escaped from their office. They decided to gather in Worcester to have fun and enjoy the night.
Turning their heads towards the water, the buildings or even the passers by, they light up the surroundings with their coloured beams in a joyful way, showing off different points of view.
Strobilophones - Picto Facto7.30pm on the High Street
An illuminated street theatre show with amazing inflatable puppets, dancers and singers who enjoy encountering and disrupting their audiences. Come and follow them in their joyful performance, but watch out, you can’t avoid these playful fools!
Performing for the first time in the UK at Light Night Worcester 2023.
Colony - Mike Blow6.30 – 9.30pm at St Martin’s Quarter
A visually arresting and aurally entrancing work that transforms the environment into an alien landscape through light and sound. These large, tactile, sonic sculptures allow the audience to experience the physicality of sound through listening, touching, and hugging.
Light Looper - The Kazimier6.30 – 9.30pm on Cornmarket
A towering audio-visual experience that unites four participants in an unforgettable game. Players must work together to accelerate a particle of light on a journey from earth to sky.
Echelle - Ron Haselden6.30 – 9.30pm on The Shambles
Echelle was first commissioned by The Salisbury Festival in 1998. Shining brightly, the 5-meter ladder offers a fantasy escape route with its startling pink neon illumination.
Butterfly Dream - Anne Bennett6.30 – 9.30pm at St Swithun’s Church
Butterfly Dream aims to enable people to reflect on life by gazing at the many butterflies hand-made from bio-resin. Each butterfly shines brightly with a unique design.
Commissioned for development by Light Up The North as part of the SHINE Emerging Artist Programme.
Windows of Light6 – 9.30pm at The Unicorn Hotel on Angel Place
Windows of Light is a project curated by Festivals Director David Edmunds for Light Night 2023. Inspired by the work “Rainbow” created by the students of SintLucas in Eindhoven during Glow 2022, Windows of Light celebrates all that makes us individual and unique.
Lumens by Screaming Me Me's 45 minute shows – 6.45pm & 8.30pm on the High Street
You won’t be able to miss the colour changing, alien-like Lumens as they tower over the Light Night crowds.
Fire Duo by FlameOz45 minute shows – 7pm & 8.30pm on Angel Place
Energetic and upbeat, FlameOz’s tightly-choreographed routines of award-winning fire dance and circus are a hot spectacular for chilly winter nights!
